Founded in Naples in 1912 by Società Tirrena di Elettricità, Banca Commerciale Italiana, and Società per le Forze. The company was founded in Domodossola in 1916, and at the end of its first financial year was a subsidiary of UNES.

In 1935 it moved its headquarters to Milan, and then to Rome. Pursuant to Italian laws no. 1643 of 6/12/1962 and no. 452 of 27/6/1964 regarding nationalisation of the electricity industry, in 1965 the company's name and purpose was changed to "Siderurgica dell'Ossola S.p.A." (Ossola Steelworks Ltd.).

The headquarters were moved to Genoa, and in 1966 the company was taken over by Italsider S.p.A.
